This week I received a package for a virtual 5k that signed up for last month. Part of my personal goals for the new year was to get out and be more active. Having adopted a rescue dog in August 2016, I knew this was a great way to force myself to meet those goals.
When I discovered this virtual run would benefit rescue dogs and participants were encouraged to participate if they had a dog. If you follow LindseyRose Marketing on social media, you know that my business partner and sidekick is a 4-year-old American Staffordshire rescue named Buster, and he was up for the challenge.
This morning, as my partner and I laced up and headed out for another 2.5 mile adventure, I had time to reflect on goals and realized that this is a lesson that could translate to business. You may be wondering how hey could be related.
Well, I hate to run. Like passionately dislike running, even walking. I play sports growing up - softball, basketball, even a little soccer. In empty fields, on school team, for charity events, if there was a game, I was trying to get in and play. But walking and running with no real purpose of getting somewhere seemed like a waste of energy and time.
But as I faced this dreaded "exercise" when Buster came to live with us, I knew it was something that I had to do. trust me, every morning when I lace up my shoes, its and internal battle to convince myself to do it, and convince myself the whole walk/run that I won't "cut this one short". On days I skip it or cut it short, Buster's energy level reminds me why I need to do it.
As business owners, growing our business often requires we do something we don't like or understand. Whether its inventory, cold calling, balancing books or another less glamorous task, it needs to be done to see growth. Social media is one of those "Is this necessary?"questions I get from potential clients and even some active clients. It's hard to understand how something that celebrities do to promote their favorite drink or make up brand can help grow your plumbing, landscaping or manufacturing business. But it does.
Sometimes we have to step outside of our comfort zone and do something that makes us uncomfortable and that is where social media management companies like LindseyRose Marketing can help. We understand how these tools can help your business grow and thrive and you understand your business. So together change happens.
While Buster may keep me motivated to lace up those shoes most mornings, a social media manager or coach can help you stay on track with reaching your audience through social media. Growth and development are what you need for your business to succeed and social media is a vital part of reaching that outcome.
